BATHROOM FURNITURE

Buyer’s guide & planning library

Bathroom furniture that fits the room—and the way you use it.

Start with the piece that solves the actual problem: a vanity with usable counter space, a cabinet that clears the door swing, or shelving that earns its wall space. This guide makes the tradeoffs plain before you buy.

Cabinets, cupboards & shelves

Use tall cabinets for volume, wall cabinets for contained storage and open shelves only where you can keep them useful.

A simple order of operations

Measure the hard limits first.

  1. Map doors, drawers and the path through the room.
  2. Mark plumbing, outlets, vent covers and window trim.
  3. Choose the storage job: daily-use, linen, cleaning supplies or display.
  4. Pick material after you know how wet the room gets and how much maintenance you accept.

That order prevents the classic miss: buying a handsome vanity that leaves no space to stand or open a drawer.

Materials & finishes

Pick for moisture, not just a swatch.

Solid wood moves with humidity. MDF can be stable and paint-friendly when its edges are sealed. Plywood is a strong cabinet-box choice. Laminate and thermofoil simplify cleanup but can be harder to repair if a surface fails. In a hard-working bath, the construction around the sink and the quality of edge sealing matter as much as the door style.

Use the material guide alongside the buying and sizing guides before narrowing brands or stores.
